Land Acknowledgement:
We at Queensway Free Methodist Church acknowledge that we are gathered on the shared traditional lands of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee First Nations peoples. We offer our sincere gratitude for their stewardship of this land, which is protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement’s three principles: to take only what you need, leave enough for others, and always keep the dish clean. Today, many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities from across Turtle Island continue to live and work in this territory. Acknowledging the peoples whose territory we are on, and the agreements that guide their stewardship of the land, reminds us to reflect on, and respect their unique relationship to this land. It is also an invitation for us to identify and engage in actions that respect Indigenous rights and to reinforce our commitments to build bridges of truth and reconciliation and relationships with our First Nations brothers and sisters.

should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
We are not a "perfect" church, but we love Jesus,
we love one another, and the community we serve.
We exist to know Jesus and make Him known;
we stand on, and teach the truth of God's Word, the Bible,
and we seek to walk humbly with God
as we grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus.
We warmly invite you to join us for worship at 10 A.M. on Sunday mornings;
we'd be delighted to see you as we worship the Lord together.

Verse of the Day
Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is His faithfulness;
H
is mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in Him!”
The LORD is good to those who depend on Him,
to those who search for Him.
So it is good to wait quietly
for salvation from the LORD.

Vivian Luella (née Card) Hyndman
May 31, 1939 – August 1, 2026

Vivian Luella Hyndman, (née Card), passed away on August 1, 2026,
at Henley House in St. Catharines, Ontario.
She leaves a rich legacy of faith, imagination, service and love.
Born on May 31, 1939, in Gladwin, Michigan,
Vivian was the daughter of Henry and Luella Card.
She grew up on the family farm with her sisters, June Terman and Virene Eddy, and her brothers, Merlin and Alan.
Her sisters Ramona and Donna Jean died in childhood.
Vivian shared her life with her husband, Allan Hyndman.
Together, they raised three sons: Harvin, Vernon, and Edwin.
Their family grew to include Harvin’s wife, Annette;
Vernon’s wife, Shelley; and Ed’s wife, Dos.
She was a loving grandmother to Amy and Joshua (Amanda); Zachary (Lindsay); Lauren (Scott); Kaitlin (Ryan); Elijah (Molly); Travis (Tina); Tyler (Alison); Grant (Sarah); and Michele Sylvia, and great grandmother to Treyton, Tayeley, Tayelyn, Mindy, Sadie Mae, Jack, Sebastian, Mateo, Victoria, Paul, Aliyah, James, Kaylin, Evangeline, Madison, Annabelle, Kathrine, William, Chris, Bridgette, great great grandmother , Waylon, Willow, and Jamie. Throughout Allan’s pastoral ministry on St. Joseph Island,
Sault Ste. Marie, Welland, Hamilton, and Port Colborne,
Vivian was an active partner in the life of the church.
She provided clerical and administrative support, welcomed people into their home, and offered steady encouragement to congregations and families.
Vivian created homemade devices that made the impossible possible,
and often involved a poking stick.
She brought the same creativity and intelligence to her work
at E.S. Fox Corporation, where she worked in computer operations
and data processing, and helped guide the company
through major technological changes.
In 1983, Vivian became the first Canadian Director of
International Child Care Ministries (ICCM),
the child-sponsorship ministry of the Free Methodist Church.
She served until her retirement in 2009.
Under her leadership, the Canadian ministry grew to administer approximately 2,500 child sponsorships in about 14 countries.
Vivian oversaw staff, finances and daily operations while working closely with churches, donors, sponsors, and international ministry leaders.
For Vivian, however, the work was always about the children.
Vivian had a special gift for engaging children.
Her style was imaginative, unconventional and wonderfully effective.
She had a particular concern for Haiti and Cambodia and travelled to other sponsored countries including Burundi and Rwanda.
There, she met children, families, teachers, pastors and local leaders, witnessing firsthand both the hardships they faced and the difference that education, nutrition, healthcare, Christian nurture,
and faithful sponsorship could make.
Vivian returned to Canada carrying their stories.
She helped sponsors understand that child sponsorship was more than a financial contribution; it was a relationship built on compassion,
faith and shared responsibility.
Her life combined practicality with imagination,
discipline with compassion and conviction with creativity.
When ordinary methods were not enough, Vivian found another way.
She could manage an office, support a congregation, captivate a room full of children and advocate for families around the world.
Vivian will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother
and great grandmother;
a leader, innovator and advocate; and a woman of enduring faith.
Her influence lives on in her family,
the churches and organizations she served,
and the countless children whose lives were touched through her work.
The family will receive their friends at the
H. L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland
on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
A service to celebrate Vivian’s life will be held
in the Cudney Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Interment to follow at Doan’s Ridge Cemetery.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Haiti Food Fund (ICCM).   Online condolences available at www.cudneyfuneralhome.com.
Vivian:
Vivian built small bridges with stories,
string and paper,
reaching children near and far with hands made wise by love.
She carried faith into the ordinary…
an office, a church, a distant road…
and left behind, in every place, someone more seen,
someone more hopeful.
Her work is finished, but her reach is not.

Loving,
Growing,
and reaching out
to the community
